The Dialogue of Difference was Coppola’s follow up exhibition to Pulse, it was shown in Melbourne in 2003. This exhibition continues from Pulse, here she further explores the complexities and subtleties of working exclusively in black and white. Optical in nature, the visual tension in the work makes reference to the notions of oppositions that Coppola so often comments on in her work. Microcosm/macrocosm, positive/negative, Italian/Australian, masculine/feminine and inside/out. It is the point of convergence between these oppositions that Coppola tries to represent in her drawings.
